Greensboro, North Carolina
Project Description:
The project involved designing
handicapped accessibility for the Housing and Resident Life
Office located in Ragsdale-Mendenhall Residence Hall which was
constructed in 1948. New ramps and stairs were constructed to
provide accessibility from the street level to the level of the
existing courtyard and to the level of the existing first floor
of the Housing and Resident Life Office.
New seating areas were provided at
the streetscape and in the courtyard. New lighting was also
added to provide general illumination of the ramps stairs and
seating areas. New landscaping was installed to enhance the
existing courtyard space.
To provide accessibility to the
existing front entrance of the building, the existing stone
column and pediment entrance canopy was renovated. The existing
stone landing was raised to the level of the first floor and the
stone stairs, columns and pilasters were altered to accommodate
the changes in elevation. New decorative metal railings were
provided to match the existing railings and existing railings
were refurbished as necessary.
